Sofia, February 14 (BTA) - A Bulgarian woman who lived in Australia willed 1,840,000 leva to the National Art Gallery in Sofia, the Foreign Ministry said. Margarita and Zanko Zaneff emigrated to Sydney in the early 1960s.

On Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry received a cable from the Bulgarian Embassy in Canberra, which had been contacted by a law firm.

With both husband and son passing away years ago, Margarita also passed in 2016. The deceased estate proceeds have been halved equally to the Art Gallery of New South Wales and to the National Art Gallery of Bulgaria.

The lawyers explained that Margarita Zaneff had been a great art lover. Her generous donations are a patriotic act to the country she was born in and an act of gratitude to her second home country.
