site.btaParliament Allows Fence along Turkish Border to Be Repaired without Public Tender

Sofia, March 22 (BTA) - The Public Procurements Act will not be applied to contracts for activities related to the construction and maintenance of border protective obstacles, MPs decided by adopting on second reading amendments to the Act here Wednesday.

The Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) objected to the amendments. According to Socialist MP Filip Popov, this is done in order to avoid transparency when it comes to concluding contracts for the border fence's construction and maintenance. MRF MP Hamid Hamid described the text as unnecessary and contributing to the public's feeling that there are shady deals surrounding this fence.
