Geneva, March 26 (BTA) - On the sidelines of the 138th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Bulgarian National Assembly Chair Tsveta Karayancheva conferred in Geneva on Monday with the President of the Parliament of Montenegro Ivan Brajovic, the National Assembly said in a press release.

Karayancheva noted the traditionally good relations between the two countries and the ever deepening sectoral cooperation. It was emphasized at the meeting that the geographic proximity between Bulgaria and Montenegro is conducive to the pursuit of active economic contacts. The National Assembly Chair sees a need for improving the transport connectivity between the two countries so as to make a fuller use of this asset. There are untapped opportunities in tourism, food processing, metallurgy, textiles and furniture making, it was noted during the session.

Karayancheva recalled that the European perspective of the Western Balkans is among the priorities of the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency.

"Bulgaria, as holder of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will be helping you in every possible way to achieve this goal [accession to the EU], and the Bulgarian Parliament, as a legislature, can help Montenegro by its experts and expertise, as well as by information exchange, to harmonize its legislation with EU law," the National Assembly Chair said, quoted on the website of the Montenegrin Parliament.

According to Karayancheva, in view of the European perspective, a joint meeting of the two parliaments'
foreign policy committees could be considered so as to benefit from the invigorated parliamentary dialogue.
