site.btaPresident Convenes National Security Consultative Council to Discuss Risks to National Security and Condition of Armed Forces

Sofia, April 12 (BTA) - President Rumen Radev is convening the Consultative Council for National Security on April 19 to discuss the challenges to national security and the condition of the Armed Forces, his press secretariat said Thursday.

At its latest meeting on January 9, the Consultative Council for National Security set March 15, 2018 as a deadline for the government to elaborate a roadmap for preparation of Programme 2030 for the Development of the Defence Capabilities of the Bulgarian Armed Forces. By March 31, 2018 an updated plan should be elaborated for participation in projects of the Permanent Structured Cooperation and the European Defence Fund, generating perspective capabilities.

On March 13, the President also said that he would convene a Consultative Council for National Security in the second half of April to consider matters concerning the country's energy security in connection with the intended sale of the Bulgarian assets of Czech energy group CEZ. "The Government owes the Bulgarian people answers to the question about how the CEZ deal is to be financed and how this deal obtained political support," Radev specified back then.
