site.btaPM Borissov, European Commissioner Gabriel Open High-tech Forum in Sofia

Sofia, April 19 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the EU Digital Economy and Society Commissioner, Mariya Gabriel, opened Thursday an international conference on "Shaping Europe's Digital Future: HPC for Extreme Scale Scientific and Industrial Applications," held in Sofia as part of the Bulgarian EU Presidency. The event is organized by the Education and Science Ministry in cooperation with the European Commission (EC).

Gabriel said that Bulgaria and 15 other EU countries are creating an enterprise for the making of European super-computers which in her words will revolutionize medicine, security and transport.

Borissov welcomed EC's initiative to create a digital technology hub and praised Bulgaria's involvement in the plans to create European super-computers. The Prime Minister said that the development of high-performance computing technologies will contribute to the faster digitalization in Bulgaria and the Balkans, serve as a step for ensuring protection against cyberattacks and a strong boost in the development of research in many areas.
