Brussels, October 8 (BTA corr. Nikolay Jeliazkov) - Approached by a reporter on Monday, a spokesman of the European Commission (EC) said that the EC has zero tolerance towards corruption and EU funding misuse, and that it takes very seriously every tip-off about suspected fraud with financing from the EU structural funds

Approached to comment expressed suspicions about fraud with public procurement in construction in Bulgaria, the spokesman said that the EC follows the media publications related to Bulgaria. He said that the Commission will notify the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and that information about the suspicions has been demanded from the relevant authorities.

The spokesman said that EC must relay to OLAF any information that needs a thorough check. He said that details about ongoing checks cannot be provided. LY/ZH//
