The Embassy of Bulgaria in the United States hosted a special event to celebrate the inauguration of the 47th US President Donald Trump, the Embassy said in Facebook Tuesday. The event was jointly organized by the Co-Chair of the US Congressional Friendship Group with Bulgaria Joe Wilson and Bulgaria's Ambassador to the US Georgi Panayotov.
Among the official guests were representatives of both parties in the US Congress, including Republican Congressmen Joe Wilson, Neil Dunn, Amata Radevagen, as well as Democratic Congressman Brad Schneider, representatives of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe (Helsinki Commission) and foreign delegations. Sofia Mayor Vassil Terziev also attended the event.
Ambassador Georgi Panayotov congratulated the guests on the inauguration of the new American administration. He expressed confidence that with the new US administration and the new regular government of Bulgaria, the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and the US are being given the opportunity to be taken to the next level. Panayotov stressed the importance of the strategic partnership in the fields of security and defence, economy and energy, pointing out that people-to-people ties are the clearest expression of the sustainable cooperation between our two countries. He also noted the significant reduction in visa refusals for Bulgarian citizens - a key step towards Bulgaria's accession to the US Visa Waiver Programme.
