Orders Check into Arsenal Ordnance Plant
following Seizure of Huge Weapons Cache

Sofia, December 6 (BTA) - The Specialized Prosecution Office (SPO) has ordered the National Police Directorate's Dangerous Weapons Control (DWC) service to conduct a check at the Arsenal ordnance factory in the central town of Kazanlak, SPO reported Thursday.

The probe is demanded in response to the large weapons cache discovered on Wednesday in Sofia and the village of Gabarevo (near Kazanlak). The weapons found included Kalashnikov assault rifles, Makarov pistols and barrels, which are believed to have been manufactured in the Arsenal ordnance plant and smuggled out of it. Eight people have been arrested as part of the case.

The DWC has a month to present a summarized report on whether there were regulations violations, what measures have been taken in response and whether the ones resposnible have been sanctioned. In case the probe cannot be concluded within one month, the SPO must be informed of the reasons and the shortest possible timeframe it can be completed. LI/MY
