Sofia, January 18 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with Turkish Minister of Interior Suleyman Soylu, the Government information service said on Friday. The two discussed cooperation in the sphere of security, limiting migration pressure, the fight against smuggling and organized crime.

"For Bulgaria, as well as for the EU, Turkey is a strategic partner - a friendly neighboring state, an ally in NATO and an important partner in the field of security and public order. The stable and sustainable development of bilateral relations is a priority of Bulgarian policy," Borissov said. He underscored that the joint work of the two countries in this field will contribute to the consolidation of confidence and acceleration of information exchange.

Bulgaria is ready to expand and step up contacts with Turkey on a professional level between the individual structures of the two ministries with similar functions, the Prime Minister added. "To date, the successful actions of the two sides are mainly along the line of drug trafficking and contraband of goods. We would want to develop proactive exchange of information along all priority lines," Borissov said.
