Alexandrovska Hospital Is Accredited
to Become Bulgaria's First Obesity
Treatment Centre

Sofia, April 15 (BTA) - Sofia's Alexandrovska Hospital has been accredited to become Bulgaria's first centre for the treatment of obesity, the medical institution said on Monday. The hospital's application was approved by the European Association for the Study of Obesity (EASO), a federation of professional membership associations from 34 countries.

According to EASO data, approximately 1.5 million Bulgarians are overweight and the country ranks among the leaders in EU child obesity.

Obesity treatment is a complex and long-term process where one-fits-all strategies don't work. Alexandrovska Hospital has formed an obesity team including an endocrinologist, a cardiologist, a pulmologist, a dietician, a gastroenterologist, a surgeon and a psychologist. The team has drafted protocols of conduct and treatment in patients with obesity, including those liable to undergo bariatric (weight loss) surgery. IG/BR//
