UDF Willing
to Keep Coalition with GERB
in Local Elections

Sofia, June 3 (BTA) - The Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) is willing to keep its alliance with GERB in the upcoming local elections, UDF leader Roumen Hristov told a news conference on Monday which discussed the European election results. He was approached about the future cooperation between the two parties.

UDF's candidate Alexander Yordanov, who was sixth on the GERB-UDF ticket, has been elected to the European Parliament.

Among the priorities in the work of the European People's Party Hristov outlined integration, the Schengen membership and European incomes.

He said that these elections were very difficult as they had been turned into a no-confidence vote in the government. He explained the election victory by GERB's mobilization and the active role of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in the week prior to the elections.

MEP Alexander Yordanov said that 30 years after its establishment the UDF is active, genuine and enjoys support throughout the country. According to Yordanov, in the future Europe will be increasingly governed by coalitions in accord for the sake of people's welfare and prosperity.

Yordanov voiced satisfaction with the fact that openly pro-Russian parties failed the elections.

Yordanov said that Bulgarian politicians should not use a different rhetoric in Europe and in Bulgaria in order to serve petty partisan interests.

UDF Secretary Iliya Lazarov thanked GERB for the fair partnership in the elections. IG/PP
