Mongolian Throat Singing
to Be Presented in
Sofia's Azaryan Theatre
Sofia, July 12 (BTA) - The typical Mongolian throat singing (khoomei) will be presented at Sofia's Azaryan Theatre on July 24, the National Palace of Culture (NDK) said. The special singing technique will be performed by the Chor ensemble.
The ensemble's members grew up in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Their art revives the traditions in this region, the most interesting of which is khoomei - the ability of one singer to produce three different pitches simultaneously.
Chor describe themselves as "harmonious and polyphonic". The word "chor" means harmony in Mongolian, and the ensemble's members carry a different understanding of music and the richness of world music culture, the NDK said.
