The Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) whose term in office has expired will convene for an extraordinary session to address the postponed procedure for electing a Prosecutor General. The meeting was called by Justice Minister Georgi Georgiev.

The procedure was previously delayed by the Prosecutors College of the SJC, pending the promulgation of amendments to the Judicial System Act in the State Gazette. The amendments, passed conclusively by Parliament, allow for the termination of the Prosecutor General election process through transitional and final provisions.

The amendments were promulgated in the State Gazette on January 21.

The sole candidate in the election process is Borislav Sarafov, who currently serves as acting Prosecutor General.
