Average of 100 People per Day
Attempt to Enter Bulgaria Illegally
from Greece

Sofia, October 2 (BTA) - An average of around 100 people per day attempt to enter Bulgaria illegally from Greece, Deputy Interior Minister Stefan Balabanov told journalists here on Wednesday before the start of a roundtable about the comprehensive coordination of the migration process, held in Parliament.

Balabanov noted that everything in Bulgaria concerning the migrants is calm.

Asked how many migrants cross Bulgaria and continue their journey towards Western Europe, the Deputy Minister said that "nobody is crossing for now". Thanks to the joint cooperation with the Turkish and Greek border police, the migrants are detected even before crossing into Bulgarian territory.

Balabanov said that the cooperation with third countries on migrant issues is not sufficient enough and the EU should step it up.

According to him, the EU must help transit countries with financial or other types of assistance, as well as to work on rebuilding the countries of origin.

The event is organized by the chairs of the parliamentary committees for Foreign Policy and for Internal Security and Public Order, the International Centre for Migration Policy Development, and the Embassy of Finland in Bulgaria.
