Sofia, March 18 (BTA) - Prime Minister Boyko Borissov held a
video conference call with European Council President Charles
Michel, the Cabinet's press office said here on Thursday.

The President of the European Council held a series of talks
with the heads of State and Government of the Member States in
preparation for the meeting of leaders on March 25 and 26, 2021.
The aim is a preliminary exchange of views on current issues,
the statement said.

At the meeting, the two discussed topics that will be in the
focus of talks by EU leaders in Brussels next week - the
response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the single market, industrial
policy, digital transformation and the economy, the situation
in the Eastern Mediterranean and relations with Russia.

Prime Minister Borissov reiterated the proposal of Bulgaria,
Austria, Latvia, Slovenia, Czechia and Croatia for a
compensation mechanism for the distribution of vaccines against
COVID-19 in the EU on a per capita basis. The Prime Minister
emphasized the need for European solidarity and unity on the
issue in order to ensure the simultaneous implementation of the
phases of vaccination plans in the Member States. "Otherwise,
huge differences would arise between the individual countries in
the process of immunization of the population," Borissov told
Charles Michel. NV/DT
