The Bulgarian scientist Prof. DSc. Vassil Zlatarski participated in the International Congress MarCuba'2024, which took place in Havana between October 1-4, 2024, the Bulgarian Embassy in Cuba announced on their Facebook page on Friday.

Zlatarski is a scientist from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, who has been studying the corals and reefs of Cuba and the Caribbean since 1969. He is author of scientific books and articles on the subject, translated in Bulgarian, Spanish, English, French and Russian.

On the last day of MarCuba'2024, Prof. Zlatarski presented the recently published book Coral Reefs of Cuba, published by the scientific publishing house Springer and produced with the participation of 104 authors from all over the world. It is "an important contribution to science and a testimony to the successful international cooperation between Bulgarian, Cuban and North American scientists", the Bulgarian Embassy said.

The diplomatic mission also pointed out that during the event, the Bulgarian Ambassador in Havana, Todor Kanchevski, expressed his gratitude to Prof. Zlatarski. Kanchevski emphasized the importance of the Bulgarian science on the world stage. "The participation of world-renowned Bulgarian scientists in events such as MarCuba continues to establish Bulgaria as an important participant in coral reef research and ocean ecology," the Embassy further stated.

Zlatarski and his wife were guests at the Bulgarian residence, where they were presented with the symbol of Eternal Friends of the Bulgarian Embassy in Cuba. The Embassy expressed its profound respect to Zlatarski for his "tireless work and dedication to science".
