Central Election Commission Denies Media
Allegations that Independent Candidates Stand
No Chance of Being Elected to Parliament
Sofia, September 10 (BTA) - The Central Election Commission
(CEC) Wednesday categorically denied allegations by print media,
online news publications and electronic media "insinuating"
that it had expressed an opinion that independent candidates
stand no chance of being elected at the October 5 parliamentary
elections. "This matter has never and in no way been discussed
at the Commission," the CEC said in an announcement.
"The CEC has not taken the liberty, cannot tike the liberty and
will not take the liberty of making any statements, comments,
opinions, decisions and any other actions and acts interfering
with the political process," the announcement reads.
"Forecasting the election results is beyond the powers of the
CEC and has never been subject to consideration," the Commission
said. ZH/LG
