Detect Fuel Fraud

Sofia, September 11 (BTA) - Attempted fuel fraud will be
detected simultaneously in real time by the information systems
of the Customs Agency and the National Revenue Agency as of
September 11, the Finance Ministry said on Thursday.

The fuel control system was put in place this year to monitor
the movement of all fuels produced or imported in Bulgaria, as
well as the volumes retailed by the filling stations. The
information system guarantees that each fuel delivery to the
filling stations is accompanied by a unique number checked by
the Customs Agency.

Shortly after the system was introduced, the first attempted
violations were established by comparing the information
provided by sellers and buyers about fuel transactions, the
Finance Ministry said. The two agencies intercepted deliveries
with a non-existent unique number, which is an attempt to sell
contraband fuel.

The attempted violations were reported to the law-enforcement
authorities. The two agencies will launch massive checks on
compliance with the fuel trade requirements. SN/DD
