Programme for Retrofitting of Buildings to Finance Better Energy Efficiency of  Lifts

Sofia, January 5 (BTA) - The Regional Development and Public
Works Ministry is mulling an idea whereby the national programme
for retrofitting of apartment blocks also provides financing
for improving the energy efficiency of lifts, sources from the
Ministry told BTA. The idea is to reduce the costs for
electricity used by lifts.

The proposal to include lift energy efficiency in the
retrofitting programme came from trade associations in the
sector, Petyo Lengerov of Global Lift said.

More than 80,000 lifts in Bulgaria are 25-30 years old and do
not meet the current requirements for safe operation. Such lifts
need to be replaced, Chairman of the Bulgarian Lift Association
Valentin Marinkov said.
