License of
Dunarit Ordnance Factory
Terminated

Rousse, on the Danube, March 5 (BTA) - A decision has been made
to terminate the license of the Dunarit ordnance factory,
Dunarit Executive Director Krustyo Krustev said on Thursday.

Trade union leaders in the plant said that they learned from the
management that on February 27 the Interdepartmental Defence
Industry and Security of Supplies Council with the government
terminated Dunarit's license for export, import and transfer of
arms. A notification to this effect was received by the company
on Wednesday.

The trade unionists said that the motive was "compromised
economic stability and reliability," which they described as "a
ridiculous motive for anyone who knows the economic state of the
company".

Krustev said that Dunarit reports an annual profit of more than
10 million leva. He said that he has not had an opportunity to
familiarize himself with the motives for the license termination
in detail, noting that to him the termination is
"inexplicable".

Krustev said that the termination of the license in the near
future means that the plant will shut down, leaving 800 people
without work. This will trigger a chain reaction, as the closure
will affect other companies which Dunarit works with.

On Wednesday the trade unions sent a letter to the President,
the Prime Minister and the Economy Minister in which they said
the are prepared for "any action" to defend the interests of the
plant's employees. The trade unionists said also that the
decision on the license termination can and is likely to be
appealed before the Sofia Administrative Court.

Dunarit makes aviation, artillery and engineering ammunition and
also articles for civilian use. PK /ZH/
