Ex-Interior Minister Says There Is No Evidence of Information Leak in Connection with Operation Worms

Sofia, March 18 (BTA) - Former Interior Minister Tzvetlin
Yovchev said on Wednesday that there was nothing to suggest any
leak of information in connection with Operation Worms. Yovchev
spoke to journalists before entering the offices of the Sofia
Investigation Service, where he was to be questioned.

Details about Operation Worms were first disclosed after it
transpired that protestors against the government of prime
minister Plamen Oresharski in 2013-2014 had been wiretapped.
Reports suggested that information had been drained from
Interior Ministry information systems upon surveillance warrants
issued by judge Vladimira Yaneva.

Yovchev said there is no evidence that anti-government
protestors were wiretapped. He denied having ordered the
surveillance operation, saying that he was only notified about
it. According to him, the purpose was to lay traps in order to
see whether any of the administrators of the information system
were abusing it.

Yovchev said it is not true that special surveillance means were
used for 300 days in connection with Operation Worms.
