New Landslides in Past Two Months Exceed 26 - Minister
Sofia, March 20 (BTA) - In the past two months alone, more than
26 new landslides were activated, Regional Development and
Public Works Minister Lilyana Pavlova told reporters in
Parliament on Friday. Pavlova said that as the moment, more than
1,850 landslides are registered in the common list of
landslides in Bulgaria.
The Minister said that an analysis of the damage will be made to
assess the financing needed to repair them. Financing can be
used under the Interdepartmental Commission for Disasters and
Accidents. She said ways are being sought so that that Road
Infrastructure Agency, the Ministry and municipalities could be
entitled to funding from the new Environment Operational
Programme, which has a separate resource item for damage repairs
and prevention against landslides. Pavlova said resources from
the budget are also available, but very scarce.
The Minister said that the new snow cover in the southwestern
region of Smolyan from last night is 25 cm.
