Bulgarian Socialist Party Collects Requisite Number of Signatures to Approach Constitutional Court over 16 Billion Leva Loan

Sofia, June 18 (BTA) - The opposition left-wing Bulgarian
Socialist Party (BSP) has collected the requisite number of
signatures to approach the Constitutional Court over the new
debt of 16 billion leva Parliament okayed at the end of
February, BSP's Yanaki Stoilov told reporters on Thursday. The
signatures are of MPS of the BSP, the leftist ABV and one
independent MP, Stoilov said.

The MP said that the question is "serious enough", the reasoning
for the petition is detailed, so that the BSP expects that it
will be admitted for consideration. Stoilov said that if the
ratification is declared anti-constitutional, the money not
taken as a loan is not going to be issued as debt.

Commenting the fact that although ABV MPs voted in favour of the
ratification when it was adopted by Parliament in late
February, the formation now contributes signatures for
petitioning the Constitutional Court, right-wing Reformist Bloc
co-floor leader Radan Kanev said he saw nothing alarming, and
described the procedure as normal. He recalled that ABV's
support for the petition is not surprising given that the
formation had made known its intentions long ago.
