Investment opportunities in the Stara Zagora Region were discussed on Wedneday by Deputy Mayor Radostin Tanev and Abdulrahman Ahmed Sultan Issa Al Jaber, UAE Ambassador in Bulgaria, the Stara Zagora Municipality said in a post on its website.

The ambassador assured the local authorities that economic interest in Stara Zagora has been present for a long time, especially in relation to the Zagore Industrial Zone, with the focus being on the food industry and animal husbandry. "The UAE has been actively maintaining relations with Bulgaria since 2018 and my mission is to find investment opportunities. I believe that by developing our active cooperation and good communication, I will be able to promote our business and the benefit will be mutual," he emphasized.

Tanev noted that Stara Zagora is an 8,000-year-old city, which has proven that it can overcome even the greatest obstacles. "The region produces nearly 60% of the state's electricity. However, as the European Green Deal calls for the reduction of coal as a power source, this will mean job cuts in the mining-energy complex. Our goal is to keep young people from migrating, and that's why we're developing our industrial zones at several stages", said Tanev, adding that attracting strategic investors is therefore of outmost importance. "We want for the investors who come here to have added value, because the creation of jobs for highly qualified people guarantees the development of the entire region," he pointed out.

"The region offers natural greenery, mineral water, as well as many enterprises related to the food and processing industry," said Stara Zagora Municipal Council Deputy Chair Prof Ivan Varlyakov. "The municipality is a leader in Bulgaria in the introduction of electronic services for citizens, energy efficiency, professional education and the hydrogen valley project, which is the only hydrogen project in this part of Europe," noted Varlyakov.
