Sofia, June 22 (BTA) - In 2014, 6,443 books were published with
a circulation of 2, 982,280 and 1,072 pamphlets with circulation
 of 1,048,863, said the National Statistical Institute, quoting
National Library data.

Compared with 2013, the number of published books and pamphlets
increased by 662, or 9.7 per cent, while the average circulation
 decreased from 649 in 2013 to 536 in 2014 or by 17. 4 per cent.

In 2014, there were 5,726 titles of original Bulgarian
literature, 76.2 per cent of the total number of published books
 and pamphlets, or 49.5 per cent of the circulation. The titles
of translated publications in 2014 were 1,789 with circulation
of 2,034,000. More than half of the translated literature was
from English 56.4 per cent, followed by the translated editions
from German, 8 per cent;  Russian, 6.8 per cent; and French, 5.1
 per cent.

In 2014, 295 newspapers were published with an annual
circulation of 315,712,000, or 44 newspapers annually per
person. In comparison with 2103, the number of titles and
circulation decreased by 3  per cent.

Published newspapers were distributed by periodicity and
circulation as follows: 55 daily newspapers with circulation of
173,257,000, accounting for 18.6 per cent of all published
newspapers; newspapers issued two-three times per week were 17
with circulation of 6,233,000 and 5.8 per cent of all published
newspapers; newspapers issued once per week were 127 with
circulation of 133,392,000 and 43.1 per cent of of all published
 newspapers; newspapers issued less than once per week were 96
with circulation of 2,830,000, accounting for 32.5 per cent of
all published newspapers.

Nearly 98 per cent of all newspapers published in 2014 were in
Bulgarian, three were in Turkish and one each in English,
German, and Russian. In 2014, 528 magazines and 107 bulletins
were published. Compared with 2013 the number of magazines
increased by 3.7 per cent but the number of bulletins decreased
by 5.3 per cent. The annual circulation of magazines was by 8.5
per cent lower than in 2013, and of bulletins - by  4.6 per
cent. In 2014, 82 magazines and bulletins were published in
foreign languages with an annual circulation of  461,000, as the
 most numerous publications were in English  - 72 titles with
circulation of 267,000, followed by editions in Russian - 3
titles with circulation of 167,000 and two in Turkish and
Romanian, respectively with circulation of 24,000 and 2,000.
