BSP Should Take Political Responsibility for Left's Possible Failure in Local Elections, Former President Purvanov Says

Sofia, June 23 (BTA) - Obviously there will not be a meeting
about a possible interaction between Left parties in the
forthcoming local elections, ABV party leader and former
president (2002-2012) Georgi Purvanov said Tuesday. He was
speaking at a news conference after a meeting of the ABV
Executive Council, commenting a failed meeting with Bulgarian
Socialist Party (BSP) Chairman Mihail Mikov.

"ABV proposed one, proposed twice. We will no longer make such
efforts but will prepare ourselves for the local elections,"
Purvanov said. He declared that the political and strategic
responsibility for another possible failure of the Left in the
local elections rests with the BSP.

The ethnic issues should be the subject of a subsequent
Consultative Council on National Security, Purvanov believes.
Asked about the tension in areas with Roma population, he
declared that at this point there is no reason to assume that
this threatens the Government's stability, but there is a threat
to the social and civil peace in the country. According to him,
someone is obviously trying to ethinicize a problem which is a
social one.

ABV has submitted a "Vision for the development of the energy
sector in Bulgaria" which was drafted by former minister Kiril
Tsochev and a team. The strategy will be offered for discussion
by the Development Council. The debate about the prices of
electricity is too petty, it does not provide a long-term
perspective, Purvanov said. In his opinion, the temporary delay
of raising electricity prices is not a solution and will slow
down the Bulgarian economy.
