CEC: 78 Parties and Three Coalitions Registered for Local Elections

Sofia, September 10 (BTA) - The Central Election Commission
(CEC) registered 78 parties and three coalitions for the October
25 local elections and denied registration to three parties
which do not meet the legal requirements, said CEC Spokesperson
Kamelia Neikova. The registration deadline was 6 p.m. on
Wednesday. By comparison, 73 parties and one coalition were
registered for the 2011 local elections.

Registration was denied to the Bulgarian Communist Party, the
Christian Social Union party and the Christian Reformist Party.

Thirteen parties were registered while the signatures collected
in support of their registration were still being checked.
Checks must be completed by September 12. The CEC will withdraw
a registration not backed by at least 2,500 voters.

Ten parties have submitted documents for participation in the
information campaign for the national referendum on remote
electronic voting during elections and referendums. The deadline
for registration is September 14. The CEC has already made
decisions about four parties which are in favour and two parties
 against remote e-voting.

So far 344 applications have been submitted for the opening of
voting sections for the referendum abroad, including 112
applications for sections in the United States.

Thirty-seven complaints were filed with the CEC between August
10 and September 10, of which 33 challenge decisions on the
appointment of municipal election commissions. The Supreme
Administrative Court is expected to pronounce on them.

In Parliament, Regional Development Minister Liliyana Pavlova
told the Regional Policy Committee that 1,724 persons were
struck off the electoral rolls due to unlawful registration at
the place of their current residence, apparently obtained so
they can participate in the local elections. The largest number
of deregistrations were in Vidin Region.

GERB's Administrative Secretary Tsvetomir Paunov said the party
is firmly in favour of remote e-voting because it will involve
the civil society in government, increase confidence, and enable
all Bulgarians abroad to exercise their right to vote. He
submitted GERB's application for participation in the
information campaign on the referendum on Thursday.
