Bureau of Congress of Local and Regional Authorities to Meet in Sofia

Sofia, December 10 (BTA) - Representatives of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities (CLRA) with the Council of Europe met with MPs of the National Assembly Regional Policy, Public Works and Local Self-Government Committee, the press service of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works said. The meeting took place at the National Assembly.

Sofia plays host to a two-day meeting of the CLRA Bureau within the framework of the Bulgarian chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers.

CLRA President Jean-Claude Frecon familiarized the MPs with the Congress priorities for 2016, which are oriented towards young people in the CoE member countries, the refugee problem, the fight against radicalization and the exercise of human rights. On their part, the Bulgarian MPs pointed out the measures, applied by Bulgaria to help smaller municipalities and backward regions.

CLRA Secretary General Andreas Kiefer delivered a lecture on local and regional democracy in Europe before students and academic staff of the St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia.
