President, GERB Discuss Judicial Reform, Energy Industry and Education

Sofia, March 9 (BTA) - The top priorities for the parliamentary group of GERB are the ongoing reform in the judiciary, the energy sector and education, including the new school education law and dual education that links schools and businesses. This transpired from remarks by GERB floor leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov after talks with President Rosen Plevneliev held Wednesday as part of his Month of Political Consultations initiative.

The President's initiative is aimed at giving him an opportunity to discuss with the parliamentary forces their political priorities.

Tsvetanov said that diversification is of key importance for GERB when talking about the energy sector.

As part of the judicial reform efforts, he underscored revisions which are being prepared in the Judiciary Act, the country's commitments to measures following up on the latest European Commission report resulting from monitoring in the area of judicial reform and counter-corruption efforts, as well as new legislation against high-level corruption which is about to be moved to Parliament.

Discussing the migrant flow in Europe, GERB raised the issue of the potential health hazards for Bulgaria considering the situation on the Greek-Macedonian border. Tsvetanov said that cooperation with the Health Ministry must improve and mentioned the expertise of the Military Medical Academy in similar situations.

Asked by reporters after the meeting to assess the performance of the President, Tsvetanov urged the press to keep within the framework set for the political consultatioins with Plevneliev. "Our assessment of today's meetings and of the political consultations is definitely that the President deserves a high mark," he said.
