Four Government Institutions, 22 Municipalities to Receive Funding for Purchase of  Hybrid, Electric Cars

Sofia, June 17 (BTA) - Four government institutions and 22 municipalities will receive funding for the purchase of hybrid and electric cars, Environment and Water Minister Ivelina Vassileva said on Thursday, announcing the results of a bidding procedure for projects to this effect. The funding is provided in a pilot scheme with a budget of one million leva financed by the Ministry and the National Environmental Trust Fund.

The funding, complemented with co-financing by the project beneficiaries, will be used to buy 34 electric cars and 10 hybrid cars. Their use will save 138 t of carbon dioxide annually. The vehicles will be used in the performance of the control functions of the respective bodies.

Vassileva said that 444 electric cars are registered in Bulgaria at the moment. She recalled that electric cars have lower environmental taxes, park free of charge and are exempt from the annual motor vehicle tax.
