Unemployed People to Receive Money for Rent If Hired Out of Town

Sofia, July 5 (BTA) - Unemployed young people from social institutions, who have finished their education, will be eligible for funds in order to pay for their rent, internet, their childrenТs kindergarten and creche, if they start work farther than 50 km from home. This is provided by a bill to amend the Employment Promotion Act, drafted by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy, which was approved on Tuesday by the National Employment Promotion Council, the Ministry reported in a press release.

The subsidy will be provided for no longer than 12 months given that the unemployed have found permanent work in the private sector. The amount to be paid out will be determined annually by the National Employment Action Plan.

The measure aims to motivate unemployed people to seek work outside their place of residence and to encourage families from less economically developed regions.
According to data of the Employment Agency, a total of 124,761 long-term unemployed persons were registered in labour offices this May, which constitute 43.6 per cent of all unemployed. The highest number of long-term unemployed persons are registered in the regions of Blagoevgrad (8,710), Plovdiv (7,782) and Pleven (7,720).
The bill further proposes that employment commissions under the regional development councils conduct studies on the local workforce demand twice a year. The short-term forecasts will contribute to a more precise and efficient allocation of EU and national funds for training and employment.
