Deputy PM and Education Minister Kuneva Wants EU to Help Young Scientists

Bratislava, July 19 (BTA) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Meglena Kuneva wants the European Union to help young scientists, make careers in science more attractive and encourage investments in the human potential in research and development. She participated in a meeting of the EU competitiveness ministers here, the Education Ministry said in a Tuesday press release.

The development and recruitment of the next generation of scientists are of huge significance for the Bulgarian government, Kuneva said. According to her, Bulgaria will not be able to maintain the highly qualified scientists in isolation, because scientific research is and will be dominated by international and intersectoral mobility, as well as by the sharing of research infrastructures, the open access and transfer of knowledge. Kuneva believes that discussing the new instruments as part of the new programming period is important for Bulgaria. They are related to identifying young talents in the science field in the early stages of their development , and providing joint career support to scientists in areas of key significance for the EU, such as security, energy, environment, etc.

Minister Kuneva noted that the development and recruitment of young scientists in Bulgaria has been included in the updated strategy Better Science for Better Bulgaria.
