Chinese Government and Business Executives Hold Talks in Sofia

Sofia, July 20 (BTA) - Bulgarian Economy Minister Bozhidar Loukarski on Wednesday received a high-level Chinese delegation comprising over 30 government and business executives, the Economy Ministry reported. The visit has been organized by China's Council for Promoting South-South Cooperation as part of a tour which has also included trips to Poland and Romania. The aim is to explore opportunities for international production capacity cooperation.

Loukarski said Bulgaria has the potential to become a stepping stone for Chinese businesses to the EU. "This country has emerged as a preferred investment and business destination, and this offers many opportunities for Chinese companies," he said.

According to the minister, Bulgaria can cooperate with China in high-tech production, the joint development of research centres and innovation laboratories, the building of showrooms for Chinese high-tech companies and products in the field of science and innovation, and exchange with leading Bulgarian academic institutions. Concrete projects which can attract Chinese businesses include Sofia Tech Park and the Bulgarian industrial zones.

The meeting also discussed ways to increase the Chinese tourist flow to Bulgaria.

The Chinese delegation comprises officials of 13 large companies and 2 financial organizations. The agenda of its visit to Bulgaria also includes a cooperation forum at Sofia Tech Park, during which the sides will discuss joint manufacturing projects. Over 90 Bulgarian companies will take part in the event.
