GERB to Run in Presidential Elections on Its Own

Sofia, July 26 (BTA) - GERB will run in the presidential elections on its own because it is a responsible party, Floor Leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov told journalists in Pleven on Monday.

Tsvetanov, who is also the party's deputy leader, said: "GERB has always stood up for the Euro-Atlantic identity and will stick to this in the upcoming presidential elections." In his view, to be the nation's unifier, the President needs experience and authority.

There is no problem in having a nominee linked with a political party when the candidate has been elected MP, mayor or member of the government, because this gives voters a better idea of his or her qualities, said Tsvetanov.

Answering a question, he said that Parliament Chairperson Tsetska Tsacheva is a very knowledgeable, dedicated person, and it is only natural to consider such people as potential presidential candidates. GERB's deputy leader would not give more details.

Tsacheva, who was also present, declined to answer questions.
