European Commissioner Says Turkey Will Keep Honouring Its Commitments Concerning Migrants
Sofia, August 3 (BTA) - Turkey will continue to honour its commitments concerning migrants, the European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos, told Bulgarian Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova on Monday. Buchvarova unveiled the news while speaking to journalists at the Council of Ministers in Sofia on Wednesday.
The Minister went on to say: "Turkey needs time to regain strength in the field of security, which means that at present we have no reason to change our policy. On the other hand, with utmost responsibility, we are planning measures which would protect Bulgaria from the refugee flow."
Asked how Bulgaria will vote on the question of lifting EU visas for Turkish travellers during an upcoming EU interior ministers' meeting, Buchvarova said that in its preliminary position Bulgaria supported the planned abolition of the visa requirement for Turkey.
