Regional Development Minister: Energy Efficiency Programme Has Reached Cap of  One Billion Leva

Sofia, November 22 (BTA) - Regional Development Minister Liliyana Pavlova has asked the municipal mayors to suspend the signing of new contracts on the implementation of the National Programme for Energy Efficiency for Multi-family Residential Buildings and the calls for expression of interest in public procurement as of November 22, the Ministry said.

Pavlova explained that the contracts signed so far had reached the cap of one billion leva set in the 2016 budget and the decree on implementing the programme. Other arguments are the unclear progress of the adoption of the 2017 State Budget Bill now that the cabinet has resigned and cannot ensure policy continuity.

The National Programme has not been stopped, said Pavlova.

The contracts signed so far will continue to be implemented as the required financing is available. The outgoing cabinet suggested that the programme's budget be increased by one billion leva but continuity cannot be guaranteed as the other parliamentary forces declared themselves against energy renovation, said the Regional Development Ministry.

Pavlova told journalists that the Budget Bill drawn up by the outgoing government provides for the renovation of 2,019 buildings.
