Medical Checks Start of Migrants Accommodated in Harmanli Centre
Harmanli, Southern Bulgaria, November 26 (BTA) - Seven doctors, among them specialists in infection and parasitic diseases, dermatologists and a surgeon, are examining the migrants accommodated at the centre in this town after an outbreak of unrest on Thursday and Friday. The unrest broke as migrants revolted against a ban to leave the centre imposed on Monday over an outbreak of skin diseases and the panic it caused among Harmanli residents. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said that medical checks performed on November 17 and 18 had not established an outbreak of a mass infectious disease.
The checks on Saturday proceeded normally.
Repair works continue of the damage caused to the facility by the rioters.
Meanwhile, the national task force on migratory pressure held an extraordinary meeting on Saturday to discuss the developments in the Harmanly facility on Thursday and Friday, the Interior Ministry said on its website.
The participants in the meeting discussed what needs to be done more to aid the State Agency for Refugees to ensure order in refugee centres.
