Democrats for Strong Bulgaria Leader Proposes Compact for New Rightist Unification of Free People,
Not Parties

Veliko Turnovo, North Central Bulgaria, November 26 (BTA) - In an address to a national meeting of the right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB) held here on Saturday, the leader of the party, Radan Kanev, said that a compact is needed for a new Bulgarian republic that unites the free people. The task of this compact will be "to cut the thick pork tails of the powers that be in Bulgaria who have been growing and fattening in the course of 70 years".

Kanev said that this could be achieved with courage, and not "with the Reformist Bloc of Meglena Kuneva and Bozhidar Loukarski, or with GERB of Boyko Borissov and Tsvetan Tsvetanov".

Kanev is of the opinion that a new charter may usher in a new period in the development of the Bulgarian republic and "do away with the seventy years of totalitarian republic and facade democracy".

Kanev read out a compact with seven tasks intended to united the rightist-minded people.

The first task is establishing an independent anti-corruption prosecution service, having a strong Bulgarian army within NATO, strong services for security and strong diplomacy.

Other tasks are environmental protection in the interest of the local communities and revival of the Bulgarian spirit which goes via restoration of the cultural and sport traditions. These goals require a new political union, a union among all Bulgarians who want change and not a party coalition, said Kanev. The unification can be around a value, and not an arrangement, he said, adding that the DSB will be a constituent part of this new broad political union.

Kanev said that the ambition of the leader of the right-wing in Bulgaria can be only one: to be prime minister.
