Audit Office Finds 205 Election Code Violations in Last Year's Local Elections

Sofia, November 28 (BTA) - The Bulgarian National Audit Office (BNAO) found that 28 nomination committees and 67 local coalitions committed 205 Election Code violations by not sending information during the election campaign for the local elections in 2015 to be published in the Unified Public Register.

BNAO checked the financial resources raised and spent by 204 local coalitions of parties and 50 nomination committees during that election campaign.

Twenty nomination committees and 130 local coalitions did not commit Election Code violations.

It was found that 200 natural persons donated or provided financing exceeding 1,000 leva. The incomes of 195 individuals were found to be proportionate to their contribution. BNAO found a discrepancy between the incomes of and the contributions made by five individuals, based on data of the National Revenue Agency and the National Social Security Institute.

A declaration of origin of the financial resources is required when they exceed 1,000 leva.

The elections involved 892 participants: 410 local coalitions and 482 nomination committees. They were established and registered as participants in just one type of election and have no obligation to keep accounts.

The financial resources raised, which were reported and checked, total nearly 3,426,500 leva, of which 496,370 leva were raised by nomination committees and 2,930,120 million leva by local coalitions.

The resources spent, the payment obligations assumed and the non-cash contributions which were reported and checked total 3,346,544 leva, comprising 473,306 leva of nomination committees and 2,873,238 leva of local coalitions.
