Sofia Hosts 3rd ITU-ENISA Regional Cybersecurity Forum

Sofia, November 29 (BTA) - Outgoing Minister of Transport, Information Technology and Communications Ivaylo Moskovski Tuesday opened the 3rd ITU-ENISA Regional Cybersecurity Forum hosted by Bulgaria. The forum, to be held on November 29 and 30, is attended by over 80 experts from European state institutions and NGOs, as well as from the European Commission, NATO and the World Bank.

This event is jointly organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA), in close cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications.

In respect to cybersecurity, it is exceedingly important to synchronise the operation of individual institutions, to compile a cybersecurity roadmap integrated with the European ones and the state to pay special attention to the subject, Moskovski told journalists.

Bulgaria has a National Computer Security Incidents Response Team (CERT Bulgaria), but the ministry is responsible for a large portion of the measures, the Minister underscored. Everyone saw how many of the systems were targets of attacks and everything possible should be done to implement adequate measures against them, he added.

The first of these measures is the roadmap, which has to be integrated with the directives on the subject, the drafting of institutional measures, as well as increased cooperation between all cybersecurity authorities, both in the country and at regional and European level.

Bulgaria's CERT every day develops various cyber attack alerts in close cooperation with similar structures across Europe and beyond, Deputy Transport, Information Technology and Communications Minister Valeri Borissov said.

The forum's first day will focus on cybersecurity strategies in Europe and the protection of critical information structures. The main subject of the second day will be the operation of network and information security centres.
