Borissov Receives Prestigious Award from Hungarian PM Viktor Orban

Budapest, November 30 (BTA special correspondent Hristo Vodenov) - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban conferred the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit on his Bulgarian counterpart Boyko Borissov at a ceremony in Parliament. It is the second highest class of merit awarded to civilians.

Borissov is visiting Hungary on Wednesday at Orban's invitation.

Orban emphasized the excellent friendship between Hungary and Bulgaria, which not only goes back in history but is part of the two countries' present and future. Europe is behaving as if it has not learned anything in the past centuries and has forgotten everything, at a time when its fate is being decided at Bulgaria's border, said Orban.

The Hungarian Prime Minister also said he was trying to make all his decisions for the benefit of the national interest, this being the only way to defend his country and Europe at the same time. He noted that he felt honoured to confer this order on Borissov as a sign of respect for a remarkable political career. This is evidence that Bulgaria not only supports Hungary but safeguards the whole of Europe as well, bound not by agreements but by its conscience, history and values.

Borissov said: "This award is not for me but for the efforts of all Bulgarian border guards and servicemen who protect Bulgaria's security around the clock. In this unprecedented crisis, which will be getting worse, leaders like Viktor Orban are much needed in Europe, leaders with such a clear judgement of the impending perils."
