GERB Will Govern Only if It Emerges as First Political Force from Elections - PM Borissov

Sofia, December 3 (BTA) - Addressing GERB supporters and members on the occasion of the party's 10th anniversary, Prime Minister and GERB leader Boyko Borissov said that his party will assume responsibility to be part of and head a government, only if it emerges as the first political force from the parliamentary elections. In any other circumstance, GERB will assume the role of a constructive opposition in the National Assembly, he added. "Our main goal is to govern alone, so that we can fully implement our policies and plans for reforms," Borissov is quoted as saying in a GERB press release on Saturday.

Borissov underscored that his party has firmly opposed populism and backstage deals, and that in ten years GERB has never joined an unprincipled coalition.

"According to the people's will from the latest presidential elections, today we are facing new parliamentary elections," he said, adding that GERB's achievements are obvious and clear, but the people now have different expectations from the party.
This is why Borissov is committing himself to reconsider the priorities and offer a clear governance programme with precise policies, which can build upon the existing ones and lead to an innovative economy, a prospering, stable and modern Bulgaria, with a strong and educated civil society, the press release said.
