ABV Suggests Expert Group to Work on Election Legislation Changes

Sofia, December 6 (BTA) - ABV suggest the establishment of an expert working group which will work on changes to the election legislation under the caretaker governments and propose solutions to the next legislature, said ABV deputy floor leader Mariana Todorova at a news briefing at the party's HQ on Tuesday.

The party will motion the National Assembly to adopt a common declaration on a way out of the current political situation with inability to form a government within this legislature and a lack of time and political resources to pass key legislation. The declaration will propose to the National Assembly Chair to draw up an expert group of representatives of political parties, NGOs and experts which will work on election legislation.

Todorova said that the current legislature had no time and political resources to pass changes to the election system but it will be an affront to the public if work on such changes did not start.

Also, ABV urged for a consensus on the refugee and migrant issue and avoiding to turn the topic into a political battleground. Todorova said that her party will sponsor changes to the Penal Code which envisage harsher punishment for human traffickers and undocumented migrants. ABV said the behaviour of Interior Minister Roumyana Buchvarova was inadequate with erratic answers about any problems and threats.

"We are in an unprecedented situation in which in six months, between November and May, we'll have four governments: two regular and two caretaker ones," said Todorova. She said that the declaration calls on the caretaker governments to work actively on border protection and the conclusion of readmission agreements, to observe a strict fiscal discipline and work actively on EU funds absorption and Bulgaria's upcoming EU Presidency.

The party urges for more active actions on the part of the outgoing government and the successive caretaker government in resolving the dispute with Atomstroyexport and attracting foreign investors for the implementation of the Belene project.

ABV warned about unmotivated changes by the outgoing government to the management of profitable companies in the defence industry.

On Friday, the management board of Kintex had been replaced and new officials were appointed on short-term contracts, said ABV deputy leader Roumen Petkov.
