Tank Cars at Hitrino Station Are In Process of Securing

Hitrino Village, Northeastern Bulgaria, December 17 (BTA) - Seven of the tank cars of the derailed train in the village of Hitrino have been removed and another five are being secured, Commissioner Toshko Burzilov of the Chief Directorate for Fire Safety told journalists on Saturday.

An area has been cleared around the plugged tank car where cranes will be deployed. Crews are constantly checking for gas leakage.

Ahead of Saturday's meeting of the public council in Hitrino, Shoumen Regional Governor Donka Ivanova said that the village residents have a dire need for food. She said that people from across the country are offering to take in the residents of Hitrino. A Bulgarian entrepreneur has pledged to reconstruct one of the destroyed houses in the village. Five families have asked to be accommodated in the trailers that have been provided.

Emine Uzeir, secretary of the municipality in Hitrino, said that so far 271,000 leva have been collected in an account for donations opened by the local authorities. The public council has decided that in order to prevent financial abuse, money for the reconstruction of the houses will be paid after the end of repair works and on a decision of the municipal council.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov arrived in Hitrino on Saturday evening. He told a news briefing that a third Borissov cabinet is possible only if there is a GERB majority. He was quoted by the Bulgarian National Radio.
