President Plevneliev Won't Appoint Caretaker Government
Sofia, December 21 (BTA) - President Rosen Plevneliev Wednesday stated that he would not appoint a caretaker cabinet. His statement came after the Reformist Bloc returned a mandate to form a government earlier in the day. GERB and the Bulgarian Socialist Party returned the first two mandates.
Plevneliev said: "I see no point. We will be ridiculed for having two caretaker governments in less than a month. This would be absurd and a sign of disunity."
He stated he was ready to appoint a caretaker government proposed by President-elect Rumen Radev.
The President also said: "I did my best to avoid early parliamentary elections. I very much hoped that the
parliamentary forces would agree on a stable formula for a government. No one would be able to explain to international observers that all is normal in a country with two back-to-back caretaker governments. Narrow partisan interests prevail when elections are in the offing."
