Croatian Discus Thrower Sandra Perkovic Named Balkan Athlete of the Year 2016

Sofia, January 19 (BTA) - Croatian discus thrower Sandra Perkovic was chosen as the Balkan Athlete of the Year 2016 in the 44th edition of the poll of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA).

The traditional poll was joined by the national news agencies of the Balkan countries: BTA, Bulgaria, ANA-MPA, Greece, AGERPRES, Romania, the Anatolian Agency, Turkey, TANJUG, Serbia, MINA, Montenegro, MIA, Macedonia, HINA, Croatia, FENA, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and ATA, Albania.

The top ten in the poll are as follows:
1.Sandra Perkovic (Croatia) discus throwing - 82 points.
2.Katerina Stefanidi (Greece) pole vaulting - 67 pts.
3.Novak Djokovic (Serbia) tennis - 36 pts.
4.Anna Korakaki (Greece) shooting - 35 pts.
5.Taha Akgul (Turkey) freestyle wrestling - 34 pts.
6.Milos Teodosic (Serbia) basketball - 31 pts.
7.Filip Filipovic (Serbia) water polo - 29 pts.
8.Simona Gherman (Romania) fencing - 25 pts.
9.Mirela Demireva (Bulgaria) high jump - 23 pts.
10.Ivana Spanovic (Serbia) long jump - 19 pts.
