Caretaker Cabinet Prepares to File Bulgaria's Application to joint ERM II, Will Wait until March 26 to Receive Proposal for Bulgarian European Commissioner

Sofia, March 1 (BTA) - The caretaker government is making preparations to file Bulgaria's application to join ERM II, caretaker Prime Minister Ognian Gerdjikov told reporters on Wednesday. Gerdjikov said that Bulgaria meets three, out of the four criteria, but that the matter is political and one requiring consultations with the members of the Euro zone.

Approached to comment the personnel changes carried out by the cabinet, Gerdjikov said he would not describe them as "purge".

Dwelling on the question of the appointment of a Bulgarian representative in the European Commission, Gerdjikov said that this is a delicate matter. He said the cabinet will not suggest a name until March 26, when early parliamentary elections take place in Bulgaria, but will do so after that, given that Bulgaria is without a European Commissioner since the start of the year.

Gerdjikov said the cabinet will discharge its duties until the appointment of a regular government or until the President decides to appoint another caretaker cabinet.
