Bulgarian Food Safety Agency Picks Up Multinational Brand Products to be Checked for Inferior Ingredients

Sofia, March 8 (BTA) - The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) will study the experience of the countries in the Visegrad Group who raised the issue of "double standards" for foods and come up with an action plan for Bulgaria, BFSA said in a press release.

BFSA will then pick up multinational brand products which will be checked for inferior ingredients or what became known as "dual-quality foods". Same brand identical products will be checked by accredited laboratories in Bulgaria and the EU.

BFSA notes that the foods on the market need to be properly labelled so that consumers can make an informed choice. The Agency also takes a stand against the double standard in the EU in respect of foods, arguing that it needs to be stopped or reduced as much as possible.

Misleading practices in respect of foods will be one of the priorities of Bulgaria when this country takes over the rotating EU presidency in 2018, BFSA says.
