Vegan Climber Skatov Reaches Everest Summit

Sofia, May 22 (BTA) - Bulgarian climber Atanas Skatov reached the Everest summit in the early hours of Monday Bulgarian time, his team said. This is the second time when the climber, who is a vegan, reaches the peak.

Skatov first climbed the peak on May 24, 2014, from the northern side, while now he went along the southern ridge.

The climber was at the summit at 3 a.m. on Monday Bulgarian time.

Skatov reached Everest only six days after conquering the neighbouring Lhotse peak, without descending to a base camp. The initial plan had been to climb the two peaks within 24 hours but the strong wind thwarted it.

Skatov's project to climb all of the 14 peaks over 8,000 m without eating food of animal origin continues. So far, besides Everest and Lhotse, he has also climbed Makalu, Manaslu, Annapurna and reached 167 m below Dhaulagiri.
