site.btaSofia Opera and Ballet Presents Opera of the Peaks in August

With the ninth edition of the Opera of the Peaks Summer Festival, the Sofia Opera and Ballet takes its art to the majestic Belogradchik Rocks (Northwestern Bulgaria) in August. The audiences will see four opera productions and a musical, the Sofia Opera said on Monday.

The festival marks Giacomo Puccini's 165th birth anniversary and 100 death anniversary with productions of Tosca, Madama Butterfly and Turandot on August 2, 3 and 4.

This is the first time the festival will have guest singers in each performance.

In its second week, the festival will feature one of the Sofia Opera's premiere productions of the season, Medea by Luigi Cherubini, on August 9, 10 and 11.

The musical Mamma Mia! is billed for the third week of the festival on August 16, 17 and 18. Plamen Kartaloff's production has had over 110 performances.

All performances begin at 8 pm.
